Young Leeds Musicians Accompany Child in the City Conference

It was very fitting that this international conference, organised by Leeds City Council, included performances by young Leeds musicians, and they were a credit to the city. A choir from the Co-operative Academy sang at the Metropolitan Hotel at the opening of the conference, and two players from Roots Alive, the City of Leeds Youth Music folk group, performed at a reception in the evening at the Tiled Hall. The two musicians: Róisín Howitt from Roundhay School, and Gráinne Lacy-Roberts from St Mary’s Menston Catholic Voluntary Academy, delighted the delegates with expertly-played renditions of tunes from Ireland and beyond. The pair are also members of the National Youth Folk Ensemble. It should be noted that this was one of the worst days in the year regarding the traffic, and Gráinne and Róisín managed to arrive at the venue on time by respectively using the train, and getting out of the car and walking so that they didn't miss their performance. Amazing talent and dedication!
