How to Undertake School Attendance Casework

Outline

This course focuses on undertaking casework with families to improve school attendance. The course is aimed at front line staff who will be implementing the initiatives but may also be of interest to Attendance Leaders. This course is suitable for staff from primary or secondary settings.

Description

Learn what interventions to undertake with a pupil and their family to support them through difficult circumstances and to best improve attendance. Consider how to have challenging conversations about attendance while maintaining good relationships with a family. Learn good practice around home visiting and when and how to chair School Attendance Panels as a formal intervention. The casework you undertake with a family will be used as evidence in court if the case progresses so you will learn what is necessary to transfer a case for legal action.

Outcomes

  • Understand what casework is and who to undertake it with
  • Know what actions to take to best support a child or young person's attendance
  • Understand when a case needs to progress beyond the school or academy
