Meeting the needs of children with SpLD and Literacy difficulties (Secondary)

Outline

This training focuses on building capacity within secondary schools to effectively support pupils with dyslexia with or without a label. Course tutors cover:
  • Current working definitions of dyslexia
  • Appropriate assessment
  • Developing effective strategies to support pupils in Quality First Teaching
  • Coordinating SpLD (dyslexia) provision within school
  • Developing clear Access Arrangements for pupils
  • Managing parental and pupil concerns around dyslexia

Description

Day One
This session studies the Rose Definition of Dyslexia and explores how this can help schools to identify specific difficulties individuals experience with dyslexia. Course Tutors demonstrate the use of relevant standardised and formative assessment and introduce an audit and action plan for the school around dyslexia

Day Two
This session explores good practice and provision for pupils with SpLD (Dyslexia) Course Tutors model strategies to promote inclusion in quality first teaching, look at intervention and consider how changes to policy and practice can have a positive impact on learners with dyslexia.
Delegates are given a file of resources to support the training and on-going good practice in school.

Outcomes

Through the training delegates will:
? Understand current definitions of dyslexia
? Use a range of assessments to support the identification of pupils with SpLD (dyslexia)
? Be aware of intervention and support for pupils with SpLD (dyslexia) in Leeds
? Audit current provision and develop an action plan to develop capacity and support for pupils with SpLD (dyslexia)

Booking Information

£320 per school for 2 delegates
  • This course is subsidised as part of LCC offer; support for SpLD. Cost includes two additional 1 hour staff meetings of CPD around SpLD Dyslexia
Includes a resource pack.
