New SENCO Training: A SENCO Survival Kit - Cohort 2

A 2 ½ day course to support teachers new to the role of SENCO.

Outline

This course is designed to:
  • Provide essential information to new SENCOs on managing SEN systems and provision.
  • Develop practical working knowledge of the role.
  • Provide knowledge of Leeds systems, including FFI, and statutory procedures, such as EHC Plans.

Description

The course is comprised of a mix of information sharing and workshop activities led by colleagues from SENIT and SENSAP. During the course we will unpick and develop understanding about current SEND legislation including the SEND Code of Practice: 0 to 25 and the Equalities Act.

We will consider the most effective ways to strategically lead through:
Implementing the Graduated Approach
Developing Quality First Teaching for all pupils
Meeting statutory obligations within Education Health and Care Plans
Manage and map provision across your setting
Ensuring pupil and parent voice is heard
Working collaboratively with other agencies.

All delegates receive a file and CD of essential resources and information to support your role.

Outcomes

Participants will develop awareness of:
  • The SEN legislation and the Code of Practice
  • Management and co-ordination of SENCO systems (including SEN register, record keeping, support plans, use of data for tracking and monitoring, reporting to governors and
OFSTED)
  • EHC Plans, Statutory Assessment and FFI
  • Inclusive classroom practice and the effective deployment of Teaching Assistants
  • Working in partnership with outside agencies
  • Provision mapping.
